Do you need a PoE Switch? What you need to Know

As a matter of fact, a lot of people are actually making huge profits by switching their entire business infrastructure to PoE. How so? Let us take an example. If you are running a factory and if your main production line is up-to-date with all the latest computerized equipment, then you can certainly use any of the computers and other electrical equipment like breakers, surge protectors, and more and connect it all with the help of an Ethernet cable from your main server.

But in the real world, all these computers and other electrical appliances are not working on 100% PoE quality; there would be a little loss while transferring the current over the cable and it would definitely affect the production.

If you have one or more such servers, then you should consider getting a PoE switch. The basic advantage of using this switch is that you will be able to send all your electric devices from your main server to all the different servers across the LAN without any interruption. The major problem is the quality of the electric current from your main distribution cable. The distribution companies that provide electricity to your LAN would have their own quality of electric charge, which is quite inferior to the quality of electric charge produced at the PoE itself. Hence, you should get your own PoE switch and then transfer all your electrical devices from your main server to all the other servers across the LAN in PoE mode.

These switches actually make use of some high-quality injecting transformers that are capable of increasing the input/output torque. At the same time, these switches also come with specially designed injector and several ports that are used for supplying the power to various different devices. The injector ensures that the right amount of power injects into the device that is to receive the power. For example, the number of ports determines how many devices can be operated by a single PoE switch. These switches can only handle a maximum output of 120amps, but more than this would lead to overload in the system.

To prevent overload, the manufacturer of the PoE switch designs it in such a way that it uses four types of power cables. The four cables are twisted in a way that prevents shorting in them. In addition, the four cables each go through a separate switch housing that has its own isolation seal. These isolated seals ensure that power cuts do not occur and that the overall performance of the entire network remains unaffected. The only point where any voltage drop may occur is when an ethernet cable is inserted into an internal PoE injector or when a high resistance wire is inserted into an internal injector.

In the case of PoE switches designed for use with non-PoE devices, there is actually not much point in having a PoE switch at all. These devices are already designed to work on their own. Therefore, it doesn’t make sense to spend your money getting a PoE switch only for these devices to fail soon after.

PoE injectors

PoE injectors for non-poe devices are available at a lower price. However, these switches do not have any additional features like the PoE injector for poe networking switches. Therefore, these devices should not be an option if you want to go for a PoE network switch. The only option left is to either get an aftermarket injection station for the PoE injectors, or to get a completely different type of switch.

Even though PoE switches will give you a much cheaper rate for the electricity that you consume, it may not be a good idea if you run several small computers on them. A single large computer may consume up to 100 watts of power, which is quite a lot, especially if you don’t have a backup source of energy. If all of your computers are PoE machines, then you can safely purchase the best PoE injector possible. As I mentioned earlier, you can opt for a passive PoE switch and just connect it to a power strip and into the electrical outlets of the individual computers. Then, just turn your power supply unit on and you can be assured that all of your PoE machines will still work even if the power goes out. This is a much safer option than having a bulky active switch for each computer.

An active PoE switch will have its own power injector and will be able to regulate the electricity going to various PoE devices. However, if you want to go for a cheap and easy solution, then you can always choose the aftermarket PoE injector for your ethernet switch or any other PoE switch. There are several options that you can choose from, including ones that plug right into the electrical outlets and ones that have their own power bricks that you would plug them into. Another thing that you can do is to just leave the PoE switch out of your computer. You will just need to make sure that you unplug the switch periodically so that it will not get damaged and start working incorrectly again.
