Instagram TV (IGTV) Introduction Guide
Instagram TV (IGTV) allows you to start your own channel where you can upload videos up to 10 minutes long. If you have a larger IG account, you can upload videos for a maximum of 1 hour.
When you start your own IGTV channel it is linked to your Instagram account and you can have 1 channel per account.
It is predicted that 78% of all mobile data traffic will be linked to video in 2021 and with that forecast, it is no wonder that Instagram is investing heavily.
IGTV is a great opportunity, just as FB-live was when it was first released. FB-live is still a great way to reach out to your target audience. At the same time, Instagram is growing fast is very popular. So, of course, make sure you take advantage of the platform in your marketing strategy.
IGTV is built for mobile
After all, Instagram is an app in portrait mode and this has been fixed with IGTV as well.
All videos that you publish on your Instagram channel should be in an upright position (portrait) and should be in 1080×1920 format.
Companies and influencers with large accounts at IG can publish 1 hour long videos, but for the majority, it is limited to 10 minutes.
IGTV is a platform for pre-recorded videos. You cannot broadcast LIVE via IGTV, but you first record directly to your mobile phone or through an external system camera or similar.
As long as you keep in mind that the format will be in portrait mode, you can film with your regular camera and then import it into a program to edit and add, for example, graphics and music.
Upload Instagram videos via your computer
Once you have finished editing your videos on your computer, you can upload them directly to Instagram instead of going via your mobile phone.
The file size may be a maximum of 3.6 GB, but it is difficult to reach given that your video must not be longer than 10 minutes.
If you are not satisfied with the cover image, you can upload a new one. It needs to be a JPG image and with the 1080×1920 format you get the best results.
Links and Hashtags with IGTV
You can continue to use hashtags as usual with your InstagramTV videos. The great news is that you can also link to your website or another optional page in the description. Previously, you have been limited to the link in the profile, but now you can start to include other types of Call-to-actions (CTA) like “click on the link in the description to get XYZ” and so on.
It makes it easier for you as an entrepreneur to take advantage of IGTV for marketing purposes. At the same time, the basic idea is to stay on IG.
You can learn a lot from influencers who are accustomed to the IG format to understand how they are doing and using it as a good source of inspiration. At the same time, you shouldn’t copy someone else, but instead develop your own style, so that it matches your brand.
